Career Timeline
1996
Originally I wanted to become a doctor but when I did not get the place that I wanted, I pulled out of the system to reconsider my options. I spent a gap year teaching in a school and travelling through Southern Africa.
1997-2000
I applied to Durham to read Natural Sciences. This enabled me to study a wide range of subjects: Chemistry, Archaeology, Philosophy, Psychology and Religious Art and Architecture. I then almost went into banking, but ultimately chose law and applied to Lovells.
August 2000
I accepted a training contract with Lovells and within weeks was enrolled on a law conversion course (the CPE) in Bristol.
September 2001
I attended the first year of the "City LPC" in Oxford and had a fantastic year. It was good from a "trainee-bonding" perspective as it enabled me to meet many of the people with whom I would be starting my training contract the following year.
August 2002 - August 2004
My training contact took me straight into the deep-end doing a seat in Real Estate. My subsequent seats were in Intellectual Property, Corporate, and I also spent six months working in-house on a client secondment.
August 2004
I qualified into Intellectual Property as I had hoped, and soon found myself involved in a challenging multi-billion pound acquisition which saw me travelling overseas to attend various meetings.
July 2007
Over the last three years in IP at Lovells, I have developed close relationships with a number of clients, including in particular one large internet retailer for whom I am the primary client contact. I co-ordinate their advice worldwide - even assisting on the business side of things occasionally.
