Profile

Having done several vacation schemes at various City law firms including Lovells, I was convinced that Lovells was the right place for me.

From a distance all the major City firms appeared to be the same. They paid roughly the same, the work was corporate/finance dominated at each, they all had international offices around the world and the firms all had impressive clients. The differentiating factor for me was the people at Lovells. Partners took time out to talk about the firm and answer any questions I had, graduate recruitment viewed you as a valuable potential investment and the general atmosphere here was very friendly and welcoming. This unique environment made my decision to apply to Lovells a rather simple one.

My first seat was in Pensions. Although I had my reservations to start with, I thoroughly enjoyed my six months in the department and I realised just how important pensions is in a corporate firm. During my time in the seat I had the opportunity to attend several client meetings, an experience that improved my confidence and legal knowledge no end.

My second seat was in the commercial regulatory department. Again, I had a fantastic time particularly as Lovells' clients included the likes of Mars, Nintendo and Royal Mail. Throughout my seat I was involved in drafting endorsement agreements with A-list Hollywood celebrities and Premiership footballers, liaising with clients and regulators to ensure compliance with legislation ranging from food to cosmetics, and drafting terms and conditions for various promotions and competitions.

My third seat was in the Islamic Finance department in Dubai. This experience has been the highlight of my training contract to date. I had the opportunity to work alongside colleagues who are recognised internationally as being world leaders in their fields. In addition, the active social life, great weather and friendly atmosphere made my time in Dubai an extremely enjoyable and unforgettable one.

I am now sitting in my final seat in Fraud and Insolvency Litigation which promises to be equally as interesting.

Whilst at Lovells I have also had the opportunity to get involved in extra curricular activities. I was part of the Lovells cricket team which won the national indoor corporate tournament at Lords. And even as a trainee I have had the opportunity to go to client hospitality events at the Windsor races and to the Oval to watch England v India in the cricket. Involvement like this just epitomises how Lovells values each and every individual at the firm regardless of their seniority.
