There was never any question for me about accepting my offer of a training contract with Lovells. At every stage of my deliberation process they stood out from other firms, even right from my first experience of being exposed to the firm. I was fortunate to have a meeting with one of the Partners a few years ago to discuss my route for deciding a career path in law. Unlike other firms I had spoken to, the Partner at Lovells not only took the time to discuss a plan for me, but he did so in a manner which appeared concerned with my interests, not those of the firm.

This genuine attention to assessing the best route for my career path was something I never forgot when deciding on which firm to join as I believe it is very valuable to surround yourself not only in a professional environment but also one which exposes you to people who are genuine and helpful. Furthermore, the ethos of the firm appealed to me, since Lovells match other large firms in their international quality and size of their deals, but maintain a client-friendly approach and amicable working environment with an emphasis on teamwork.

My route to law was slightly different from others in the City, since I had originally completed an economics degree in Canada. Having subsequently embarked on a law degree in the UK, where I balanced responsibilities as President of the Manchester University Law Society and those of my studies, I then followed my postgraduate training with a Masters in International Business Law. Working at a reputable international business law firm, such as Lovells, will give me the opportunity to apply what I have learned academically to the highest level of practical application.

Deciding on which firm is best for you is one of the most important decisions you will have to make in your career. I was looking for a top firm which also provided me with an environment conducive to learning, which includes the ability to feel comfortable to approach people in all levels of a firm. Lovells provided all these qualities and more. I am looking forward to growing in my career in law with a firm of top lawyers who appear ready to help me to reach my goals and those of the firm’s at the same time.
