PRE-QUALIFICATION

THE TRAINING CONTRACT

The two year training contract is split into 4 six-month periods. Trainees move around the firm during this time and each six-month period is known as a 'seat'.

Before you start your first seat, however, your formal training starts with a week-long induction programme. You will learn critical research skills as well as how to use the variety of resources and facilities that we provide. By the end of that first week you will be ready to start your first seat.

Lovells has a wide range of practice areas for trainees to choose from, so we place a high importance on helping our trainees to make informed decisions about the areas of work they will experience during the training contract. We ask all our new joiners to let us know if they are interested in particular practice areas. We can then bear this information in mind when we come to plan their seats.

The great extent to which our own Partners are involved in the training process, sharing their skills and experience with trainees, reflects the central role training plays within Lovells as a whole. Furthermore, all trainee solicitor supervisors receive a tailored programme of training to help coach, motivate and delegate effectively, ensuring our trainees receive the highest standard of supervision.

Pre-Qualification: The Training Contract

Technology also has an important role to play. TransAct, a virtual simulation of a global corporate transaction designed to link up Lovells' international lawyers and expose trainees to the global nature of work has been developed and is used widely as a learning tool. On-line training courses are also available.
