LOVELLS ASSESSMENT DAY
All candidates who are invited in for a training contract interview at Lovells will attend our assessment day. The programme below provides details of the different parts of the day and what candidates can expect.
- 10.00am Candidates arrive at our London office, Atlantic House
- Candidates are briefed by a member of the Graduate Recruitment team about the format of the Assessment Day and the skills and qualities relevant to a career in law which will be assessed in the different activities they will be asked to complete. An ice-breaker is also introduced to help candidates get to know each other and travel expenses reimbursed
- 10.20am Ice breaker, Introductions and Partner talk
- Candidates make introductions to the group, which is then followed by a talk from a partner which covers the firm's international practice, clients, training, secondment opportunities and any new topical matters relating to the firm. Candidates are encouraged to ask questions throughout the talk.
- 11.15am Break for refreshments
- 11.30am Critical Thinking Test
- Candidates are required to sit a critical thinking test and will receive a practice test in advance to familiarise themselves with the format of the test. The practice test is also available online, click here to take the test. The ability to think analytically and critically is vital for a successful lawyer.
- 12:15pm Lunch
- Candidates have lunch with trainee solicitors (this is not assessed and trainee solicitors are not asked to give feedback).
- 1:30pm Group Exercise
- Candidates are required to take part in a group exercise. They are asked to read a commercial-based case study and discuss it as a group. This exercise is assessed by a partner and a member of the Graduate Recruitment team and assesses team working, analysis, communication and commerciality.
- 2:15pm Break for refreshments
- 2:30pm Interviews
- Candidates are interviewed either by two partners or one partner and a member of the Graduate Recruitment team. The interview will cover reasons for pursuing a legal career, interests in business/commercial issues, degree subjects, extra curricular activities, motivations and research into firm and career.
- 3:15pm Tour
- Candidates are taken on a tour of the office by trainee solicitors. They are shown the facilities and a typical working area.
- 4:00pm Depart
